1. Be on time to every meet. Always confirm with your coaches what time you should be at the meet. Meet starts at: 6:00 p.m. Each team receives a 20-30 minute warm-up prior to the meet. The coaches will tell you each week when to report to the meet. Always check your email before leaving for a meet.
2. The pool deck will be open to set up your family at 4:00 pm. Please respect the crew that is trying to get the deck ready for the meet! Seating on the deck for our team begins at the diving well and continues to the opposite end of the pool. Please reserve half the awning at the far end of the pool for the other team.
3. Check in with the parent volunteer, check the event board when you arrive, and write your events on your hand.
4. Get ready for warm-ups. Stretching and warm- up exercises are conducted (as a team) just before the meet. Return to the team area after warm-ups.
5. Listen to the announcer so that you know when your event is called. Go immediately to the Clerk of the Course.
6. Get with your relay before it is announced. Make sure you swim in the correct order on the card and if you have any questions at all about your relay, please talk to a coach. Also, remember all relays are subject to change at the coach’s discretion.
7. Bring plenty of fluids and stay hydrated throughout the meet.
8. Team swimsuits and caps should be worn to all meets. Remember to also bring warm clothing and extra towels for when you are not competing. Heat loss leads to slower swimming, so this is very important.
9. Communication is very important. Always let your coaches know if you have a problem. If you are sick on the day of a meet, please call or email our head coach, Natalie 513-6546 (cell), This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
10. Cheering for your teammates is encouraged and is a great way to relieve stress and make you less nervous.
11. Pay attention. Stay alert and know when it is your turn to swim.
12. Stay positive. Good moods are contagious and so are bad moods. So try and remain positive, both for yourself and your team.
13. Disqualifications (DQ’s) are a normal part of swimming. You will learn from your mistakes. If you are “DQ’ed” in an event, be respectful to the official. Ask your coaches for an explanation the next day.
14. Always ask the timer for your time after your event. Final times will be posted as soon as possible after an event. (Please don't go into the clubhouse or near the computers!)
15. Smile. Yes, we are competing against another team and we want to win but this should be a fun experience. Plus, it takes more muscles to smile than it does to frown.
16. Feedback is important. Always ask the coaches how you can improve and listen to their explanation.
17. Relax between your events. Sit down and rest when you are not competing. Stretching is also recommended between swims. Save your energy for your event.
18.When it is your turn to race, get up there and do it! Remember everyone puts on the suit the same way - one leg at a time. Give it your all! Good sportsmanship is expected at all times!
19. Never leave the meet without first talking to a coach. Sometimes last minute changes are made - especially in relays.
20. Clean up your area before you leave the meet. Take pride in your pool. When we are at AWAY meets, be sure to clean your area BEFORE you leave the meet. Be respectful of the other team’s property.
21. As soon as you get home, rinse your suit out in cold water!
