Workerboard

Please select a meet for individual swim meet workerboard assignments:

Meet 1 - Home vs. Mechanicsville

Meet 2 - Away vs. Pebble Creek

Meet 3 - Home vs. Kings Charter

Workerboard Position Descriptions

Announcer- handles all PA announcements including warm-up calls for each team and weather delays; makes all PA calls related to every event and other relevant announcements

Candy heat winner- hands out candy to first place swimmers in each heat after each event (this position may only be signed up for once per season per family)

Computer helper- assists the head computer person with inputting swim results as they are received; prints scores and reports and other computer tasks as assigned

Concession worker- sells candy, drinks and other concessions items; help prepare any necessary food items for sell

Evening clean up- picks up trash after the meet ends and makes sure the trash cans have been emptied; puts PA equipment away at the end of the meet; responsible for on deck and parking lot clean up; places chairs back on pool deck; removes ropes and tape from pool deck; breaks down tables and clerk of course area

Head Timer- insures that timers have lane/timer sheets before the start of event; start extra watches at the start of every event as a backup for a failed watch

Pool set up- sets up the PA system and speakers; ropes off the restricted areas for the meet; places chairs in spectator area; removes all unused pool furniture from deck; sets up lights on pool deck; sets up clerk of course and heat chairs behind each block (this position requires that you arrive at 3:00 to set up)

Runner- collects lane/timer sheets and DQ cards after every event and returns them to the table workers

Table worker- receives and sorts lane/timer sheets; labels ribbons; sorts DQ envelopes; posts results and scores

Timer- records swimmer’s times on the lane/timer sheets

Swimmer/worker check-in- checks in all swimmers and workers for the meet; turns in this information to the computer workers prior to the start of the meet (usually around 5:30); make and distribute name tags to all workers; distribute stopwatches to the timers; reports anyone not showing up for their job to the workerboard coordinator (this position requires that you arrive around 4:00 to begin check-in)

Half time coordinator- makes sure all second half workers are in their positions; reports anyone missing to the workerboard coordinator

 

CERTIFIED POSITIONS

Clerk of Course- heads up all workers for clerk of course; keeps the Starter and Referee informed of changes to the number of heats for each event; works with Announcer to give swimmers a first, second and final call for each event (must complete a training course every two years and take a written test; must walk a half meet and all relays as Clerk)

Head Table Worker- receives information from the runners and processes it all the way through posting; receives and sorts lane/timer sheets; labels ribbons and DQ envelopes; posts results and scores (must complete a GRAL training session once every two years; no certified test is required for this position)

Referee- must be fully cognizant of the job responsibilities and rules governing the performance of the Clerk of Course, Starter, Strokes & Turns, Table workers and computer functions (if interested in certifying for this position, please ask to see the full requirements as listed in the GRAL handbook)

Starter- controls meet with electronic starter from start to finish (must complete training course every two years and take a written test; must walk one full meet prior to completing the training requirements)

Strokes and Turns Judge- evaluates swimmers to insure proper strokes and turns are being performed and disqualifies those swimmers that perform them incorrectly (must complete a training course every two years and take a written test; must walk one entire meet and one additional half meet to review all strokes and all relays)
